3.1.7 Protection against fire and explosion hazards

The manufacturer should safeguard against risk of fire and explosion.

For fuel cell components for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, the ATEX Equipment Directive (94/9/EC) [12] applies.  The ATEX Workplace Directive (99/92/EC) [15] also requires the preparation of an Explosion Protection Document (see 3.3.2).  The ATEX Directives only apply to workplaces.
